The GROWTH Project: 18 Months of Transformational Support

Over the past 18 months, Target Housing’s GROWTH Project has supported women facing some of life’s most complex challenges, including child removal, homelessness, domestic abuse, mental ill health, and involvement in family courts.

With stable accommodation, trauma-informed care, legal advocacy, and emotional support at its core, GROWTH has created a safe and compassionate environment where women could rebuild confidence, reconnect with family, and begin shaping positive futures.

A’s Story: Rebuilding Confidence, Reuniting Family

When A first joined Target Housing’s GROWTH Project, she was facing some of the most difficult moments of her life.

She had experienced childhood trauma, domestic abuse, periods of homelessness, and declining mental health. Three of her children had been placed into foster care, and years of challenging experiences had left her feeling overwhelmed and unable to trust professionals.

Through GROWTH, A was offered a safe, stable home close to her support network, alongside tailored emotional and practical support. She received legal advice and advocacy, fortnightly psychological therapy, and ongoing one-to-one support to help her navigate complex systems and rebuild her confidence.

With this consistent, trauma-informed care, A began to make meaningful changes.

She started to reflect on past relationships, recognise unhealthy patterns, and prioritise her own wellbeing. Over time, her confidence grew, her emotional regulation improved, and she developed strong, positive relationships with the professionals supporting her.

Most importantly, A began the process of reunification with her children — a powerful milestone in her journey. She now actively engages with services, communicates her needs clearly, and continues to put her children first in every decision she makes.
