At Elliot House in Rotherham, our goal is to support tenants during their 6–9-month stay so they can confidently move on to a home of their own. A key part of this journey is our Rent Ready course — a practical, supportive programme designed to help people build the skills they need to manage a tenancy successfully.
The course covers everything from budgeting, paying bills and understanding tenancy agreements to essential life skills like cooking, cleaning, and looking after a property. Tenants also learn about reporting repairs, staying safe at home, being a good neighbour and navigating the responsibilities that come with independent living.
For many residents, these sessions are transformative. They offer a safe space to ask questions, develop confidence and gain knowledge that they may never have been taught before. Our team works closely with each tenant, offering guidance and real-world examples to help them feel fully prepared for the next step.
By the end of the programme, tenants leave Elliot House with not only the skills, but also the belief in themselves that they can manage a home of their own. The Rent Ready course is a vital part of that transition — turning uncertainty into empowerment and helping people move forward with independence and pride.
