Former Elliott Court tenant celebrates move into independent accommodation

July 27, 2026

Target Housing is celebrating the success of AW, a former Elliott Court tenant who has successfully secured a tenancy with RMBC and moved into a bungalow that better meets his needs.

AW came to Elliott Court after experiencing many years without safe or settled accommodation. He was referred to the service following health-related challenges and needed support to rebuild stability, improve his wellbeing and develop the skills required to live independently.

During his time at Elliott Court, AW engaged consistently with weekly support sessions and worked closely with his support worker to identify his goals and take practical steps towards achieving them. Support was tailored around AW’s individual needs and focused on the areas that would help him sustain a tenancy in the long term.

This included support with budgeting, home safety, tenancy management, paying household bills, attending health and wellbeing appointments, and accessing appropriate community services. Through this person-centred approach, AW was able to build both the confidence and practical skills needed to manage his own home successfully.

AW has now moved into his new bungalow and is continuing to make positive progress. Since securing his tenancy, he has independently budgeted his finances to furnish his property and has purchased a mobility scooter, giving him greater freedom to access the local community.

He has also started to build positive relationships with his neighbours, demonstrating increased confidence, independence and community connection.

AW’s journey highlights the important role of tailored housing-related support in helping people move away from homelessness and instability. With the right support at the right time, individuals can build confidence, develop essential life skills and take meaningful steps towards independent living.

A spokesperson for Target Housing said:

“AW has worked incredibly hard throughout his time at Elliott Court. His commitment to engaging with support, building his confidence and developing the skills needed to live independently has been fantastic to see. We are very proud of what he has achieved and wish him every success in his new home.”

AW’s story is a powerful reminder of the difference supported housing can make — not only by providing a safe place to stay, but by helping people build the foundations for a more secure, independent and connected future.
