When Daniel first came to Target Housing, he found it difficult to manage some of the practical responsibilities that come with maintaining a home.
Keeping on top of everyday routines and household tasks could feel challenging, and Daniel needed support to create the structure and stability required to sustain his tenancy.
Daniel began working with Terry, his Housing Support Worker. Rather than stepping in and doing everything for him, Terry worked alongside Daniel, helping him understand what needed to be done and supporting him to take greater responsibility for his home.
Together, they focused on the practical skills Daniel needed to manage his tenancy successfully. Terry also helped Daniel communicate with external agencies and support services, ensuring he could access the appropriate guidance when he needed it.
Regular contact with Terry gave Daniel the structure he needed to stay on track, manage his responsibilities and address any concerns before they became more difficult.
Over time, Daniel has taken on much more of the day-to-day running of his home himself. As his practical skills have developed, so too have his confidence and independence.
Speaking about the support he has received, Daniel said:
“Terry has been a rock.”
For Daniel, this consistent support has helped him remain in control of his own tenancy while developing the skills he needs to manage his home more independently.
Daniel’s journey demonstrates what housing support at Target Housing is all about. It is not about doing everything for someone. It is about working alongside them, providing the right level of practical and emotional support, and empowering them to take control of their home and future.
Through this approach, Target Housing helps tenants sustain their accommodation while promoting independence, wellbeing, stability and social inclusion.
