Elliot Court is home to 33 residents who stay with us for around 6–9 months while they work towards becoming “rent ready” and preparing to move into a place of their own. Alongside support with finances, wellbeing, and independent living skills, we also encourage tenants to take part in practical, confidence-building activities that make learning fun and meaningful.
In one of our recent sessions, six tenants came together for a hands-on pizza-making workshop. As shown in the video, the group had a great time choosing toppings, and creating their own personalised pizzas from scratch. What looks like a simple activity is actually an important part of the journey toward independent living.
Cooking together helps tenants build everyday skills such as food preparation, hygiene, budgeting and teamwork — all of which are essential for maintaining a tenancy later on. It also gives residents the chance to socialise, boost their confidence, and enjoy a shared sense of achievement.
At Elliot Court, moments like these reflect the heart of what we do: supporting people to grow, learn and prepare for their next chapter. Each small step is a building block toward independence — and for these tenants, this session was a delicious one.
