Lauren Thompson Robertson’s journey at Target Housing is one built on compassion, growth and a strong commitment to helping people who are often overlooked. Having worked at Target Housing for four years, Lauren began her career as a Housing Support Worker and has since progressed into a Team Leader role — a step driven by both experience and purpose.
From the very beginning, Lauren’s motivation was simple: she wanted to help people. In her early role, she worked closely with individuals who had been in contact with the criminal justice system — a group she believes can be misunderstood and marginalised by society. Through working alongside people experiencing multiple disadvantages and trauma, Lauren developed a deep understanding of the challenges they face and the importance of tailored, person-centred support.
Stepping into a Team Leader role allowed Lauren to expand her impact. She now supports her team to support others — sharing the knowledge, insight and learning she has gained over the years. For Lauren, leadership is about strengthening the people around her so that together, they can make an even greater difference.
Lauren believes that communication is the foundation of any effective team, especially in a complex needs service. Feeling psychologically safe, being able to speak openly with colleagues and knowing support is always available are vital when working in challenging environments. A strong team, she says, makes even the toughest days manageable.
Multi-agency working is also central to Lauren’s approach. She places great importance on building strong relationships with partner organisations, collaborating on joint visits, sharing information through effective handovers, and maintaining clear records, risk assessments and notes. This joined-up way of working ensures everyone is aligned, informed and working toward the same goal.
Lauren’s leadership style reflects the values at the heart of Target Housing: teamwork, understanding and a belief in people’s potential. By supporting her team and championing collaboration, she continues to help change lives — not just directly, but through everyone she leads.
