Joanna Linakar – Supporting Growth, Independence and New Beginnings

December 23, 2025

For Joanna Linakar, being a Support Worker at Target Housing is more than a job — it’s a commitment to helping people rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence and hope. Joanne has been part of Target Housing for 3.5 years, and during that time her role has evolved alongside her skills, experience and passion for supporting others.

Joanne began her journey working in an 8-bed hostel, a frontline environment where people often arrived directly from the streets. There, she supported individuals through some of the most difficult moments of their lives, offering safety, understanding and a fresh start. It was challenging and meaningful work — and it laid the foundation for her deep commitment to person-centred support.

Today, Joanne is part of the team at Elliot House, where the focus shifts from crisis support to helping tenants learn the skills they need for independent living. From budgeting and cooking to managing a tenancy and building self-confidence, Joanne plays a key role in preparing people for their next chapter: moving into a home of their own.

What makes Joanne stand out is her ability to build trust. She does this through empathy, patience and the reassurance that she is always there when tenants need her. Whether someone is struggling, uncertain, or simply needs someone to talk to, Joanne makes sure they know they are not alone. Her steady presence gives people the confidence to open up, ask for help and take positive steps forward.

Over the years, Joanne has seen countless tenants grow, learn and transform — and she takes pride in knowing she played a part in their journey. Her dedication reflects the heart of Target Housing: supporting people with compassion, teaching vital life skills and helping individuals move toward a brighter, more stable future.
