Before progressing into management at Target Housing, Georgia worked directly with clients as a Housing Support Worker. In this video, she reflects on her experience in the role, the skills it helped her develop and the difference Housing Support Workers can make every day.

Georgia describes housing support as a varied, exciting and rewarding area of work where no two days are exactly the same. The role gave her opportunities to meet different people, respond to a wide range of situations and help clients work towards positive outcomes.

She believes the position is particularly well suited to people who enjoy working with others and building relationships through everyday conversations and interactions.

Housing Support Workers help clients overcome challenges, develop their confidence and move towards greater independence. Providing this support requires colleagues to listen carefully, adapt to individual circumstances and find practical solutions to different problems.

Many of the qualities needed for the role are skills people already use in their everyday lives. Communication, organisation and problem-solving are all important, alongside patience, empathy and a genuine desire to support others.

For Georgia, one of the most rewarding parts of working as a Housing Support Worker was seeing the difference that the right support could make. Knowing that a client valued the help they had received provided a real sense of achievement.

The experience also provided Georgia with valuable skills and knowledge that have supported her own career progression within Target Housing. Having since moved into more senior roles, she understands both the challenges and the rewards of providing frontline support.
