Gemma Green – Growing Through Opportunity, Leading with Trust

Gemma Green’s journey at Target Housing is a powerful example of what progression can look like when opportunity, support and belief come together. Gemma has worked at Target Housing for nine years, starting her career as an apprentice and progressing into a Team Leader role within just three years.

When Gemma first joined Target Housing, she had no prior experience in support work. Through hands-on, face-to-face work with clients, shadowing experienced colleagues and receiving consistent team support, she learned on the job — developing the skills, confidence and understanding that would shape her career. One defining moment in her progression came when she was offered the chance to work on a brand-new project — the first of its kind. Gemma embraced the opportunity and remains grateful to the colleagues who believed in her potential and trusted her to take that step.

Now as a Team Leader, Gemma plays a vital role in shaping how support is delivered. She firmly believes in embedding Target Housing’s ethics and ethos into every aspect of her work. For Gemma, effective support means approaching people without judgement and understanding that life experiences — particularly trauma — can influence the paths people take.

Building trust with clients who have faced difficult pasts is central to Gemma’s approach. She works in a trauma-informed, client-led way, ensuring support is tailored to individual needs, with manageable and achievable goals set at the client’s pace. Listening, consistency and reliability are key — being there through both good and bad days and reassuring clients that support won’t disappear when things feel challenging.

Gemma’s story shows that progression at Target Housing is not just about job titles, but about learning, growth and shared belief.
