Angela Nicholls – Leading with Experience, Positivity and Trust

Angela Nicholls has been a Team Leader at Elliot Court for an incredible 20 years, bringing consistency, experience and strong leadership to one of Target Housing’s busiest services.

Elliot Court is a 33-bed homeless hostel, and Angela understands that working in such an environment can be intense and demanding — which is why creating a positive workplace culture is central to her approach.

Angela believes that a positive attitude and a sense of humour go a long way. She focuses on making sure staff feel supported, valued and happy, knowing that a strong team environment leads to better outcomes for tenants. Trust is key — staff need to rely on one another, use their instincts and know that support is always there when challenges arise. Angela also emphasises the importance of being fair but firm with tenants, creating clear boundaries while maintaining respect and dignity.

A typical day for Angela starts with checking in on her team to make sure everyone is doing well. Each day includes a daily handover, where priorities and essential tasks are discussed, ensuring the whole team is aligned and focused on what needs to be achieved. Through clear communication, experience and empathy, Angela helps maintain a calm, structured and supportive environment for both staff and tenants.
