Target Housing Launches MAD – Making a Difference Initiative to Support Local Communities

Target Housing has launched MAD – Making a Difference, a new social value initiative that enables staff to give back to their local communities through paid volunteering time.

All new contracts will now include dedicated MAD hours, reinforcing Target Housing’s commitment to social value, community partnership, and inclusive working practices. Through the initiative, every member of staff is allocated three hours per year to volunteer with a local cause or organisation that matters to them.

MAD has been developed to support local Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations, while also strengthening relationships across the sector and helping to create more inclusive, connected services. By encouraging staff to volunteer locally, the initiative delivers a joint benefit — supporting other VCSEs while enriching the experience, understanding, and wellbeing of our workforce.

Staff taking part in MAD can volunteer with any suitable local cause, with opportunities coordinated through Target Housing’s Volunteer Co-ordinator. The Volunteer Co-ordinator will support staff to identify relevant VCSE organisations, make contact, and arrange volunteering activities that are meaningful, appropriate, and impactful.

At a local level, MAD activity will be supported and monitored by Service Managers, with central oversight provided by the Head of Development. This ensures the initiative remains aligned with organisational values while offering flexibility for teams and individuals to engage in ways that reflect their interests and communities.

The launch of MAD builds on Target Housing’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and partnership working. By investing time as well as resources, the initiative reflects a belief that positive change is driven not only by the services we deliver, but also by the relationships we build and the contributions we make beyond our organisation.
