On Thursday 9th February we hosted our 6th Networking Event around the theme of mental health. Held at the Unity Centre in Rotherham, representatives from a range of organisations across South Yorkshire and the Humber attended the event to network, hear guest speakers and participate in workshops.
Target and St Martins partnership officer Sirea Jabar opened the event discussing Target and the Frontline Network. Sirea discussed how the Frontline Network exists to harness the ideas, energy and experience of those at the frontline working with homeless and vulnerably housed people.
Our first speaker of the day, Sarah Batty from Rethink – a charity supporting almost 60,000 people every year across England to get through crises, to live independently and realise they are not alone- discussed a number of mental health issues, the symptoms and effects of these mental health issues, she gave facts and personal experiences on the topic.
Rosie Peers from SWWOP- Sheffield’s working women’s opportunity project who provide intensive & practical support to a socially isolated and vulnerable women involved in street prostitution. The second speaker of the event spoke about her organisation and how they help.
Speakers from Rotherham and Barnsley Mind-a local provider of high quality mental health services in Rotherham, Barnsley and its surrounding areas- were the last speakers of the day, sharing best practice for frontline workers on how to help people experiencing mental health issues.
After talks from speakers, attendees separated into workshops where they had the chance to get more information from speakers as well as learn more about the Frontline Network and how it can benefit those on the frontline.
The event was a huge success and we look forward to hosting again!
