Community Comes Together at Target Housing Services Event in Doncaster

Target Housing welcomed local organisations and members of the community to its Services Community Event in Doncaster, bringing a wide range of support, advice and opportunities together under one roof.
Held at South Parade on Thursday 27 August, the event gave people the opportunity to meet local organisations, find out more about the support available in Doncaster and access practical help in a friendly and informal environment.
There was a fantastic turnout throughout the day, with visitors able to access everything from health and wellbeing advice and employment support to free pampering, haircuts and activities.
A wide range of organisations supported the event, demonstrating the breadth of help available to people across Doncaster.

Yorkshire Smokefree attended to provide information about its NHS stop smoking service and the free, proven support available to help people quit smoking, while South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service offered advice on keeping safe from fire in the home.
The Hepatitis C Trust was on hand to raise awareness of Hepatitis C and offer testing, while Doncaster Hygiene Bank provided free hygiene packs for attendees, which had been put together by Doncaster Cadets.

Employment was another important focus of the day. Advance Employment Hub provided free and friendly support for people looking to move into paid work and build the confidence and skills needed to stay and thrive in employment. South Yorkshire Housing Association also attended to provide employment support for people aged 18 and over. Visitors could find out more about support for carers and families from Doncaster Carers Centre, Doncaster Parents’ Voice, Doncaster Autism Awareness, the City of Doncaster Council’s Integration and Partnership Team and its Carers Wellbeing Team.

Support4Change (S4C) offered information and support for people caring for or supporting someone affected by alcohol or drugs, while Addicted to Recovery highlighted the peer support group sessions available for people in recovery.
Changing Lives also joined the range of local services attending and supporting the event.
Alongside the information and advice, visitors had the opportunity to enjoy some well-deserved pampering and activities. Nail technician and makeup artist Kate Morton joined the event, along with face painter Donna Jeavons and barbers including George Wilson, helping to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

The event was made possible thanks to the organisations, professionals, volunteers and members of the Target Housing team who gave their time and support – whether providing specialist advice, cutting hair, running the tombola or simply helping everything run smoothly throughout the day. Target Housing would like to thank every organisation and individual who took part, as well as everyone from the local community who came along.
Events like this provide an important opportunity to make support more accessible, bring organisations together and help people discover services and opportunities they may not otherwise know are available.
